Middle School Program
Mission
The mission of GPFAA middle school arts program is to educate, foster, and encourage curiosity to prepare our students to be exceptional artists. Through a unified curriculum that incorporates discipline, integrating art with technology, and a core foundation of the arts, our students are prepared to be lifelong creators.
6th Grade Focus
- Building knowledge of art vocabulary
- Exploring ways artists create through critiques and new art techniques
- Developing skills in drawing, painting, problem solving, and creative processes
- Participation in exhibitions and competitions
7th Grade Focus
- Further develop knowledge of art vocabulary
- Strengthening previous skills learned and discover methods of art planning, new mediums, and techniques
- Exploring and executing words of art independently and collaboratively
- Focus on meaning of art and exploration of ways artists depict works
- Participation in National Junior Art Honor Society, exhibitions, and competitions
8th Grade Focus
- Defining previous art vocabulary and skills learned
- Expressing more creatively with work based on set themes/topics
- Exploring in depth techniques, compositions, and the elements and principles of design to develop more intricate works of art
- Develop ways to communicate the meaning of art through metaphors and deconstruction of conceptual works
- Participation in National Junior Art Honor Society, exhibitions, and competitions.
